Study on Instrumental Activities of Daily Living after Rehabilitation for Elderly Outpatients

Abstract
Objective: This study explored the participation of elderly outpatients and provided basic data for the development of the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living evaluation tool.

Methods:This study was performed from August 1st to August 30th, 2010. Subjects were thirty-five elderly outpatients 6 mon th after onset. Screening tools used were the MMSE and Evaluation tool, as well as the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living(IADL) Scale. Survies and collected data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0.

Results: Handling medication, using the telephone, and handling finances were valuable in frequency of the participation. Using the telephone, using transportation, and preparing food were valuable in frequency of the importance.

Conclusion: The result indicated that outpatients from rehabilitation hospital regarded Instrumental Activities of Daily Living as important. But they did not participate regularly. In future studies, through the continuous study on Instrumental Activities of Daily Living provide an appropriate intervention and develop Instrumental Activities of Daily Living evaluation tools that reflect client needs.
